Gyroplane pilot training is managed by Transport Canada. The training is composed of a theoretical element and a practical element. The practical element must be preceded by a medical examination by a doctor accredited with civil aeronautics.  You must obtain a class 3 medical certificate.

GYROPLANE PILOT STUDENT PERMIT

(Solo flight without passengers)

The minimum age is 14.

Requirements for someone with a private pilot licence and/or a commercial pilot license:

- 12 hours in double controls
- 20 hours of theoretical courses

Requirements for a pilot with no experience:

- Minimum of 12 hours with double controls
- 40 hours of theoretical courses
- Successfully complete the PSTAR exam with the training school
- Obtain a Restricted Radio Telephone Operator's Certificate

GYROPLANE PILOT LICENSE

The minimum age is 17.

Requirements for someone with a private pilot license and/or a commercial pilot license:

- 30 hours of flight (including double controls time)
- Successfully complete a flight test with an instructor
- Successfully complete the Transport Canada GYROP exam (passing grade: 60%)

Pilots with no experience:

- 45 hours of flight (including double controls time)
- Successfully complete a flight test with an instructor
- Successfully complete the Transport Canada GYROP exam (passing grade: 60%)
